Andover Wheelers Christmas run and Free Wheel event
Every year we meet on the last Sunday in December before Christmas for a club run and the Free Wheel "race". We cycle for about 15 - 20 miles as a group averaging about 12 - 15 mph. This is a time to dress up, decorate your bike and have a chat as we cycle, about the previous racing season, winter training and aspirations for the new year.
At the end of the ride we finish at the top of the big hill out of Penton Mewsey which has the right turn to Clanville. We then take it in turns (just like a time trial) to free-wheel down the hill as far as you can go WITHOUT PEDALING. The winner (always Simon) is the rider who can travel the farthest without pedaling.
Afterwards we all meet at the Weyhill Fair for copious amounts of alcoholic beverage and hot mince pies.
