Winter Training 2008/09
SUNDAY CLUB RUN
Simon Healey is organising the
club's Sunday rides this coming Winter. A fairly easy format to start off
with up until Christmas and then increasing the mileages in the New Year. This is
obviously dependant on how many turn up etc. but everyone should be
able to manage the rides up until Christmas at least. As well as good base
training for next season, its a excellent opportunity to catch up with the
rest of the club so please try and support the rides when you can. Simon
is going to plan some routes and put them on the internet for everyone to view
and know where they are going (!!) - see the routes below. The winter
Sunday rides will begin on 12th October. As in previous years we will meet up
outside the Andover Guildhall at 9am, departing at 9:05am prompt.
From the beginning of November onwards we will revert to the traditional format
of a different route each week. The plan is to, where possible, keep a café
stop at about 30 miles but with options of short (10 to 15 miles) or long
routes from there back to Andover. Please make sure that you are well equipped
with plenty of food & fluids and you wear suitable clothing for the winter
months. We also recommend that your bike is fitted with mudguards and that you
use heavier duty tyres to cut down on the risk of punctures.
See you all over the Winter months
but if you have any questions please contact Simon Healey or Mike Webber.

21st December - Christmas Run and
Free Wheel Sunday 21st December at
10:30 hrs at The Magic Roundabout pub car park
This has now been
put off until early Spring 2009.
WEDNESDAY CHAIN
GANG
Meet at the “Magic
Roundabout” Pub in Andover every Wednesday night at 18:30 for a Hilly 20 mile
circuit. This does tend to be a faster ride with some steep climbs &
descents and would not be recommended for novices or young youths. Bring your
pennies as few of us tend to go to the “Weyhill Fair” Pub after for a few pints
of orange Squash! Good front and rear lights essential as we are on country
lanes.
FRIDAY WINTER TURBO TRAINING
Every Friday night
meet at 18.30 to start for 18.45 at the Scott Centre, Mead Hedges, Andover.
Bring Turbo Trainer, Bike, Shoes, etc. and plenty to drink. Session will last 1
hour for the time being and will be at a fairly steady pace with some
short hard efforts, ideal for the winters training. Cost per head is £1
for Adults (Free under 18's), Non-members £2 per head. The club does have a
couple of turbo trainers that can be used if you don’t have your own. The more
we get the better it will be so come along for some hard pumping action!!!!

SATURDAY RIDES
Ian Knight is planning to
do a Saturday morning training ride, starting 4th October, from KFS
Special Vehicles, Hunting Gate on the East Portway Industrial Estate. The aim
is to leave there at 9.30am for a 2 hour ride which is
primarily aimed at younger riders and female club members but is open to
anyone should you wish to come along. It will be small chainring
only, so it will be intense but not stupidly fast, and will be on probably
2 circuits with some hills. It will be mainly about learning to spin a
gear and maintaining a good brisk speed. Ian should be able to make most, if
not all, of the rides and the ones that he cannot, Harry Lodge will
step in and help take the ride. Should the weather be bad, can you
call Ian on his mobile (07814 939556) to see if the ride is
going to go ahead. Ian will be able to offer tea and coffee when you get
back, so even a wet and cold ride should go ahead.
