2005 Old NewsNews

So the Winter is over and we're ready to race. First club time trial is on Tuesday 5th April at 18:30 hrs. It's the season opener at the Monxton 8.7 mile course. Remember how much this first one hurts? Some riders have already got a few open events in so it won't be too much of a shock to the system.

This season is going to be quite competitive across the all standards. Jake has dominated for a long time but Lee is really coming in to form with a spectacular 20:40 at the Bournemouth Arrow CC 10 mile TT on the P415 on 25th March 2005 coming tenth and beating some quality riders. Phil Bowley is going well and may even be 100% fit. Roger is going to give it some this season and it wouldn't surprise me if Alison lets him spend some money on some new toys.

Pete Williams (ACU) and his brand new Trek speed machine is going to take some beating having already recorded some decent 10 times and scored some road racing points at a couple of Thruxton circuit races.

Dave Dinsdale is suspiciously quiet, no doubt been putting in some quality training sessions over the winter and Stuart Thompson has competed in a few road races so he may be making a comeback.

Eric is getting ready for his annual training camp in sunnier climbs. Rumour has it he's getting yet another new bike to add to his collection, a Principia no less.

No more Jason Eady this season as he's back in NZ. Emma hasn't been seen out on a bike for a few months so Lizzy may have it all her own way unless Ally decides to get back on the bike.

Talking of new bikes, we will no doubt see Ian on a state-of-the-art machine this season as he bimbles round 'till about July when he'll even decide to pedal!

Haven't seen Malc Morgan recently, he was entered for the hilly 10 but didn't start. Adrian Slack has been seen spending money in the Bike Shed, let's hope he's got the legs to go with it.

Are we going to see the tandems out this season? Simon's entered a couple of open events and it looks like he may get his legs back soon after some Wednesday evening "kickings". John Martin name has been on a few start sheets but no sign of Paul Welch, not even on a Sunday club run recently.

Another rider not seen for months now is Phil Jacobs, rumour has it that he's now ensconced in the music trade.

Dave Gunm is desperately trying to put all his bits and pieces back together, so we made even see the "Six Million Dollar Man" out again.

At both ends of the scale, Chazz Adnitt is taking a decade off and Mick Risdale cycling has been somewhat disrupted with domestic commitments.

Hopefully Pete Dennet has eventually treated himself to some tri-bars now, it does make a difference Pete!

The new membership card scheme should help identify the members who have forgotten to pay subscriptions this year, so if that's you, please pay up if you want to ride.

I'm sure Ken May will be there to lead us off and John Foster to offer a kindly few words of encouragement.

I'll look forward to seeing everyone for the first 2005 club event, cheers - Nick.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT - CHAIN GANG CHANGES

OK, Wednesday Chain Gang (or do I mean RACE!) is back to the normal route as of 23rd March.

As many of you know, we have run the Wednesday evening chain gang on the same course for many years, finishing at the Weyhill Fair pub. This has changed hands recently and we are now looking at alternative routes and hostelries. On Wednesday 9th March 2005, we are going to try a new route. As usual it will start at the Magic Roundabout pub and go the usual way, but at the top of Conolt Hill we will turn right and loop round to Fosbury and follow the valley through Vernham Dean, Hurstbourne Tarrent, St. Mary Bourne and turn right towards Pickets Piece. We'll then stop for a pint (or three) at the Wykedown country pub (where we had last year's dinner and prize giving).

We're not quite sure if this will be as successful as the usual route, but let's try it anyway.
