A Surprise Win for Knighty and Phyllis

Everyone is now aware of the new Tandem pairing of Ian Knight and Phil Jacobs, for some reason both Ian and Phil have gelled together on Ian’s touring tandem, if it was any more laid back it would be horizontal!!!!

After the Salisbury 25 they entered the Border CA 10 on the Bentley course the H10/8, they went there with high hopes of doing any kind of 20 minute ride, Phil knew the course but Ian did not, on the way over Phil keep power knapping, well so Ian thought turns out he had been up till 3am drinking and was very hungover, but apparently he was better after being very SICK!!!

They were the last pairing on the road, not that gave them any advantage, as they never saw another pair of mad people.

As novices they really had no idea of what time they could do so they just went for it, have you every ridden that course not an ideal start. They got settled and pedalled as fast as they could, knowing where the finish is in a 10 is an advantage because you can gauge your efforts over the last 1 mile to perfection.

So there they are 1 mile to go, Ian could not believe his eyes they are on for a 19.00 at this rate, except you guessed it the sleepy tandem partner had told Ian the wrong place for the finish, so they dug in for the line only half a mile more pain, they crossed the line in 20.10.

They were pleased with the time but thought it would give them 3rd place, well would you Adam and Eve they only bloody WON, beating 5 others pairs to boot, with the quickest solo being 20.39 they were very pleased.

Weeee Waaaa Weeee Waaaa

Must be the Hants Police CC 10 mile race!!!

After that ride they both went to the P881 over a Liphook to ride the evening 10 promoted by the Hantspol CC, it was a nice evening with clear skies and some nice wind, it must have been that wind that blew the rain to the line. Just 2 minutes before Phil started the heavens opened, and Ian was just 3 mins behind, both recorded respectable times 24.09 for Ian and Phil 22.23, after the 20 min tandem ride 3 hours earlier these were good results, the winner was Aaron Stanton in 20.22

Sleeping Phyllis and the lonely tandem rider(will someone be my friend)

A ride on the P415 at Poole on Monday was looking good for Knighty and Phyllis, but they never got to ride the Tandem as sleepy Phyllis was still in bed. Eventually they both rode solo as they had entered for both the Tandem and solo event.

It was not a great morning for quick times but it was reasonable, Ian managed to record a 23.26 his best for 2 or 3 years and Phil managed a 22.35. Also riding was John Martin, who recorded a very respectable 24.35 this includes carrying a piece of Barnsfield Heath in his leg, the winner was that old codger Ray Hughes in 20.01 don’t know what kept him!!!!!!
