These are the PROVISIONAL results for the Andover Wheelers 25 mile open time trial

P613/25 Sunday 17th September 2006

Here are the provisional results for the 25 mile time trial. They are subject to change following checks with the Starters sheets, Sign On sheet and Time Keepers records.

I have been made aware of some of the comments being posted on various cycling web forums regarding the decision to run the event, even though some parts of the course were subject to fog. Two years ago I cancelled the 10 mile event because of torrential rain, it was not an easy decision to disappoint 270 riders but I felt it was the right one. Today I ran the 25 mile event despite the fog, it was not an easy decision but I felt it was the right one. I was in contact with marshals at the start, the finish, the Andover turn and the Parkhouse turn and drove the course twice during the event looking at visibility and safety from a drivers' point of view not of a riders. The traffic was light and the drivers were being cautious. I also spoke to a number of riders waiting to start.

But let's just get one fundamental issue clear:

The decision to run the event is the responsibility of the organiser, ME. The decision to ride rests with the rider, YOU.

To those riders who took the decision not to ride because of concerns for their safety; RESPECT.

Nick Adnitt - Chairman Andover Wheelers, Event Organiser
